250 Years Since the Shot Heard ’Round the World. Where Are We Now?

On April 19, 1775, on the village green in Lexington, Massachusetts, a group of farmers, blacksmiths, teachers, and shopkeepers stood their ground. They faced off against the most powerful military in the world, not with certainty of victory, but with conviction in their cause. When the first shots rang out, they set into motion a revolution that would ripple around the globe.

It was the birth of resistance.
And 250 years later, that spirit still lives in New England—and across this country.

But where are we now?

Then: Fighting Against Empire. Now: Fighting to Fulfill the Promise.

In 1775, they fought against taxation without representation, against monarchy, against imperial rule.

In 2025, we’re still fighting:

  • Against corporate greed and billionaires buying our elections
  • Against leaders who want to roll back human rights
  • Against efforts to erase history, control bodies, and silence communities

We don’t face red coats, we face red states trying to legislate people out of existence. We don’t face a king, but we’re still battling authoritarianism in our politics.

The tools of oppression have changed. The courage required to face them hasn’t.

A Legacy of Rebellion Lives Here

New England is no stranger to revolution.
We were founded in protest.
Raised on rebellion.
Sharpened by struggle.

  • The Boston Tea Party wasn’t polite.
  • The suffragettes weren’t quiet.
  • The abolitionists weren’t patient.
  • The labor organizers weren’t obedient.
  • The LGBTQ+ activists at Stonewall weren’t asking for permission.

Every great leap forward has come from people who said “enough” and meant it.

What Will Our Shot Be?

250 years ago, a gunshot ignited a war for freedom.
Today, we believe in a nonviolent, people-powered revolution, one built with:

  • 📢 Protest signs and voting booths
  • 🗳 Ballots, not bullets
  • 💪 Organizing, mutual aid, and accountability
  • 🧠 Education and truth-telling

This isn’t just about remembering history.
It’s about living it.

The question isn’t “what would the revolutionaries do?”
It’s “What will we do?”

Honor Their Legacy by Fighting for Ours

The Minutemen weren’t perfect. They weren’t all-inclusive. The revolution they sparked left too many people behind. But they still proved one thing: ordinary people can make history when they decide to rise.

Let’s do it better.
Let’s do it bolder.
Let’s make sure everyone is part of the future we’re building.

💥 It’s 250 years later, and the world is still watching.
